Seed yield components and seed yield of Adesmia latifolia (Spreng.) in two physiographic regions of Rio Grande do Sul

The objective of this experiment was to study the seed yield components and the seed yield of A. latifolia in two physiographic regions of RS (Depressão Central, 30°S, 51°W - DC and Encosta Superior do Nordeste, 28°S, 51°W - ESN). The trial was carried out at the Estação Experimental Agronômica (EEA) of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Eldorado do Sul and at the Centro de Pesquisa da Pequena Propriedade of the Fundação Estadual de Pesquisa Agropecuária (FEPAGRO) located in Veranópolis. The highest seed yields in the first year were obtained at ESN on 12/12/98 (317 kg.ha-1), while at DC that was achieved on 22/12/98, with 110 kg.ha-1. In the second year the highest yields were obtained at DC (97 kg.ha-1) on 30/11/99, while on the ESN that was achieved on 26/11/99, with 56 kg.ha-1. It was observed in both regions that the seed yields in the first year were higher than those in the second year. That was mainly because the seed yield components, number of flowers/head, number of ripe fruits/flower and weight of 1000 seeds were higher in the first year.
