Soybean seeds conservation through products applying based on propionic acid

The present work had the purpose to verify the practicability of the products applying based on propionic acid in the soybean seeds storage with high water level. Two portions of soybean seeds from the BR-16 cultivar with an initial moisture content of 9.9% and 17.3% w.b. were treated with equivalent doses to 0 (zero), 2 and 4L t-1 from a commercial product based on 55% of ammonia propionate and 15% of ammonia hydroxide, and they were stored during sixty days inlaboratory environmental conditions. The experimental outlining adopted was completely at random. In the beginning and at the end of the storage period, the water level, germination, the primary root lenght, the vigour and the viability in the tetrazolium test and a field emergence, only in the end of the period, were evaluated. According to the results obtained, it was concluded that the 2L t-1 product application based on propionate and ammonia hydroxide appeases a better conservation of dry soybean seeds and that the storage of wet soybean seeds (17% w.b.) treated with a product based on propionate and ammonia hydroxide is not an advisable practice.
