Abstract
Introduction:
this essay premise comprehends Worker’s Health Surveillance (VISAT) as a public action able to intervene more ostensibly and effectively in the workers’ health problems determinants.
Objective:
to establish a theoretical-conceptual parameter aiming at guiding the praxis that is expected from the public health service responsible for workers’ health in Brazil.
Methods:
methodology based on two approaches: literature review about VISAT and empiricism accumulated during VISAT public servants’ training.
Discussion:
grounded on theoretical foundations and experiences acquired during VISAT agents’ training, we propose the establishment of links between the episteme related to the VISAT construction in Brazil and the expectation of a praxis still feebly exercised. In the conceptual analysis of VISAT, with its polysemic and complex hermeneutical dimensions, ten significant categories were systematized in oder to extend its concept: Political; Ethical; Legal; Institutional; Epidemiological; Methodological; Technical; Pedagogical; Epistemological; and Transformative (ideological-revolutionary).
