Reflection group of health care professionals from a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit: a report on experience

Abstract

Objective:

to describe a group intervention carried out for a team of health professionals of a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Methods:

a narrative-like report on experience, produced by a resident psychologist from a Women's Health Multidisciplinary Residency Program. Five monthly meetings were held at different work shifts.

Results:

the authors came across institutional difficulties and resistance offered by the group, which were all solved during the meetings while the bonds with participants became stronger and the group members and coordinators increased their ownership of the proposal. The activities inserted expressive features between more reflective moments. The authors could observe changes in the participants' professional practice and in the relationship of the group members; with their communication becoming easier and their professionals' self-care improved.

Conclusion:

offering a space for listening, exchanging of experiences and reflection has great potential for generating positive changes in these professionals' work routine and well-being.
