Evaluation of the essential oil of Eucalyptus urograndis (Myrtaceae) in the control of Pentatomidae

The aim of this research was to evaluate the insecticidal potential of the essential oil of Eucalyptus urograndis in the control of nymphs and adults of Euschistus heros (Fabricius, 1794) in bioassays in the laboratory. Four parameters were evaluated in nymphs and adults of the species: exposure through topical application, exposure by surface contact, no-choice feeding inhibition and dual-choice feeding inhibition. The evaluation was carried out after 24 and 48 hours, when the number of live and dead individuals was recorded. It was found that the essential oil of E. urograndis is toxic to nymphs and adults of E. heros. The lethal dosages (DL) as well as the lethal concentrations (CL) determined for the oil decreased with the increase in insect exposure time and in the dosage of essential oil applied, indicating dependence on the exposure time. It was found that seeds treated with the essential oil promoted a feedinginhibitive action through a reduction in feeding places, showing the oil to be promising in the alternative control of this insect.
