Branchial anomalies: a review of 23 cases

The branchial anomalies are the most common congenital neck mass. Twenty-three patients treated between 1994 and 1997 were reviewed. Clinical diagnosis was confirmed with ultrasonography. First branchial anomalies were seen in 26%, second in 69.5% and third in 4.5%. There was no fourth anomalie. The follow-up was from 3 to 43 months with no cases of recurrence. The prevalence of second branchial anomalies was according to the literature, but we had a high incidence of first anomalies. The surgical management with complete excision was essential for a successful outcome.
