Open-access Accelerated aging testin seeds of crambe (Crambeabyssinica Hochst), cultivar FMS Brilhante

The use ofhigh physiologicalquality seedsis essential in the establishment of any crop.Germination and vigor tests are required for seed quality control. The objective of this studywas to evaluatethe efficiency of theaccelerated aging testin determining the vigor of crambe seeds. The initial quality of five lots of crambe seeds, cultivar FMS Brilhante, was assessed bydetermining thewater content, germination, germination firstcount, seedling emergenceindex andemergence rate. For the accelerated aging test, the seeds were subjected to temperaturesof 41 and43 ºC ina BOD chamber for 48, 72 and 96 hours. At the endof eachaging period, the seedswere put to germinate according to the methodologyfor thegermination test. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized designwithfour replications per lot.The accelerated aging test under the condition of 41 ºC for 72 h provided the greatest vigor discrimination between the lots of crambe seeds, cultivar FMS Brilhante.
