Legal Pluralism: the State and Traditional Authorities of Angola

Abstract

This article aims to discuss legal pluralism in Angola by understanding the dynamics of the relationship between the categories of official rights and hidden rights as sources of Angolan law. We use the concept of Southern Epistemologies of Boaventura de Sousa Santos and the post-colonial studies of Sergio Costa and Guilherme Leite Gonçalves to corroborate Étienne Le Roy's critique of the monolatry of Western culture. To this end, we have established direct contact with the traditional authority of the Kingdom of Bailundo in Angola. We also adopt the Afrocentric perspective, which places the African as the subject of history, not as an object.
