Abstract
Fifty years ago, in May of 1968, the largest general strike in the history of Europe took place. This represents a milestone in the history of Europe and the world. In Europe it is a revolution in an advanced capitalist country, which combines manual and intellectual work and, for the first time since the war, calls into question the hegemony of pro-USSR parties in the direction of the working class. In the world, May 1968 represents a historical era marked by the protagonism of social struggles that put the working classes at the epicenter of the historical process: Berkeley, London, Mexico, Prague, Turin and Paris. In this article we look at events in European cities, and how they marked an era in the twentieth century.
