Right to development in the state of crisis: The effectiveness of gender equality in check

Abstract

This article aims to think about the right to development in a state of crisis, starting from the premise that the aforementioned human right suffers a deficit of effectiveness when faced with such contexts and returning to look at a very sensitive component of its constitution: equality of gender. In the first part, it’s exposed the need for a non-rhetorical affirmation of the right to development. It follows investigating the gender equality as a sustainable development objective (SDO) and asserting the importance of adopting public policies for its implementation, even when contingency measures are in force. It's reflected timely about the concerns generated by the leveling and ignorance of gender inequalities, based on the analysis of concrete situations in Portugal and Brazil. Therefore, it's pondered the perspectives on the subject and it is proposed that the emptying of the right to development, from the violation of the guarantee of equality between men and women, under the premise of overcoming an economic-financial crisis is increased for sociopolitical crises.
