Abstract
The objective of this article is to outline the origin of the theory of dependency in Latin America, its main theoretical-methodological features that characterize it, as well as its contributions and validity in the explanation of the development and crisis of the world capitalist system, to which the the region is subordinated and overdetermined in its processes of development, change and social and political transformation.
