The world in pandemic times: certainties, dilemmas and perspectives

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a deep crisis that changed the world's economic, social, political and cultural dynamics in a few weeks. Faced with this crisis, governments responded in different ways and these differences expressed public policy options that had different effects. In some cases, the crises worsened, and, in others, it was possible to mitigate their damage and the multiple inequalities that deepened. Likewise, responses to the pandemic and the dynamics of the crisis have sparked various analyzes by intellectuals around the world. These different analyzes provoked debates and cross-responses to analyze the pandemic and the society that will emerge after it. In this paper, we propose to understand and interpret the social, political and economic dimensions of the pandemic, in order to reflect on the various causes of the crisis and the disputes that exist over its possible overcoming. The text will present certainties, dilemmas, paradoxes and hypotheses proposed as triggers for collective reflection.
