Marx, productivist or precursor of ecology? An always renewed question

Abstract

From questions debated during a “Forum Marx”, organized by the newspaper L’Humanité, and with a dialectic and interdisciplinary approach, this article intends to delineate an answer to the question introduced by its title, coming back on few arguments of those “blaming” Marx as for over-emphasizing on high productivity and those defending a “ecologist Marx”. In a second part, the intention is to propose interwoven considerations about the actuality of the Marx’s theoretical legacy, even 200 years after his birthdate, as a support for the analysis and understanding of the environmental issue, the socioenvironmental consequences of production and consumption modes, with a background of a capitalism entering in crisis.
