Abstract
The article discusses the concept of police, in a critical approach to the traditional position of policing studies which identify the possibility of the use of force as a defining element. Considering the evidence on police violence and the empirical existence of the mentalities proposed by the “warrior-guardian” framework, we indicate another conceptual path and some of the challenges for the construction of a new policing profile.
