Moral censorship in the Brazilian dictatorship: between law and politics

Abstract This article aims to analyze the construction of a moral censorship apparatus during the 1964 civil-military dictatorship. Through a critical review of the specialized historiographical literature and a synthesis of the main legal guidelines on the subject, with emphasis on the thought of the jurist Alfredo Buzaid, the text discusses the statute of moral censorship and its relation to strictly political censorship.
