ABSTRACT
In recent years, post-graduation in accounting has grown considerably in Brazil and, consequently, there has been a significant increase in scientific research in this field. The objective of the present study is to analyze the theses and dissertations produced in the stricto sensu postgraduate courses in the area of Accounting in the period from 2007 to 2016, based on the information of the works made available in the Banco de Teses & Dissertações of Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). This research becomes relevant because it provides the mapping of the last decade of academic production of the selected graduate programs. This is a descriptive bibliometric study in which the results point to a higher level of productivity by the postgraduate program of the University of São Paulo (USP). The main themes of theses and dissertations produced in the period were managerial accounting and managerial accounting, followed by financial accounting. As for the methodological aspects of the productions, a greater preference was given for the accomplishment of quantitative, descriptive and empirical researches. It is believed that the results obtained allow to identify the characteristics of the nature of the knowledge generated in the field of accounting study, demonstrating the main research trends in the area.
