AMARANTE, Sandra Terezinha. Analysis related to the operating room nurses'ergonomie working conditions
ABSTRACT
The operating room nurse works under given conditions which can generate health problems, usually unidentified, thus likely to jeopardize preventive measures. This situation led us to carry out the present study intended to: analyse the ergonomic conditions of the operating room nursing workers in 100 hospitals located in the Municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. From that totality, 35 hospitals were randomly selected. Data collection was carried out by an operating room nursing worker of each one of the selected hospitals and the instrument applied was na "ergonomic Verification list" questionnaire, validated by Delphi technique. The collected data was afterwards systematized, presented and analysed according to the groups: characterization of hospitals and surgical centers, personal and professional characteristics of nursing workers working in those surgical centers, and characterization of those nurses' ergonomic working conditions regarding either the space and the working method. The study analysis enabled to conclude that: these professionals' working conditions are very complex, caused by an intense working rythm, predominantly of management nature, which envolves tasks demanding prompt, accuracy, reasoning and constant moving. In addition to the conditions mentioned, nursing workers also report discomfort, insalubrity, and risks concerning the physical environment and the working method, as well as the exposition to chemical, physical, mechanical and psychological burdens which result in a consuming process. The conclusions attained by the present investigation evidence the need for further reflections and discussions related to those significant problems nursing workers have to cope with.
