This paper reports an experience carried out by nurses during the 44 th. WEEK ON NURSING in the Suboways of São Paulo Municipality in 1983. The general purpose was tonake population and authorities acquainted with the nurse's potencial of work regarding the primary health care. The specific goals were the proposition and experimentation of a nursing assistance model which could show the performance of the nurse's traditional functions, though with a greater degree of autonomy. The model was evaluated in terms of the average length of the activities provided, the kind and number of health problems and others found along the population, and the view point of the nurses who partook the experience as well as the opinion of the population attended.
