Compare the prevalence of suicidal ideation and self-harm in PLWHA with workers from a local government. |
More than one-third (34.7%) of PLWHA versus 4% of controls expressed suicidal ideation in the previous month, with 9.3% attempting suicide in the six months prior to the study. The most common type of attempt was a drug overdose. Being a woman, unemployment, comorbidities, living alone and having a partner with the disease were associated with suicidal ideation or self-injury. It is suggested that physicians routinely question PLWHA to reduce mortality. |
