ABSTRACT: This paper is the result of our experience in clinical oncology in which we verified the lack of systematization in the nursing assistance offered to oncological patients Literature points out the need of offering specific care to patients under antineoplasic chemotherapy in order to minimize complications associated with this treatment's side effects. Our purpose was to identify and anaiyze the problems of the patients under antineoplasic chemotherapy, identify the need of home nursing care, implement and analyze a method for home assistance in order to continue the post-chemotherapy care. A continued assistance of the patients was performed and home visits were implemented, in order to list the problems, solutions and necessary interventions. We found that the problems pertaining to those patients who received accompaniment were minimized by the systematic assistance adopted, and that as a result of the guidance concerning self-care offered during the treatment, the patients came up with adequate solutions. At the end of the study, we concluded that a specialised, systematic, whole, continuous and holistic assistance, extended to the patients' homes, minimizes complications associated to the side effects of antineoplasic chemotherapy.
