The objective of the present study was to reveal different aspects of what it means to parents to experience a situation of severe illness of one of their children. In view of the nature of this type of study, we've chosen the phenomenological methodology of perception of, and feelings about, the care of a severely ill child. We've obtained declarations from parents in this situation when they sought a Specialized Regional Ambulatory (SUDS) to obtain a form that would grant chemotherapy for their children. Analysis of speech of these parents according to the steps of the phenomenological methodology have permitted us to uncover facets that express the essence of this experiencing and that open the way for the establishment of guidelines for a type of nursing care that considers the complexity of the situation of these parents as they experience the situation of having a severely ill child
