This work reports the experience which students and teachers of Psychiatric Nursing at Catholic University of Goiás lived through, at the Goiânia Sanitation Unite, between 1987 and 1989. The purpose has been to suggest prime action in health to community, with the view to meet its basic needs related more closely to Mental Health, and offer opportunities to prospective male nurse fornish alternative nursing care under sistematic pattern. The strategy that has been put into use was to meet with target population when it was waiting for medical appointments. The outcome has been considered as meaningful for male nurse's performace in health education. The last part presents suggestions for this kind of practice to be perfected and strengthened
