AVALIAÇÃO DA AÇÃO ESTERILIZANTE DE UM COMPOSTO QUATERNÁRIO DE AMÔNIO EM CATETERES CARDÍACOS* * Trabalho realizado na Seção de Hemodinâmica e Punção Pulmonar do Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto.

This study presents a microbiological test with a quaternary ammonium compound for stablishing a efficiente procedure in a cardiovascular laboratory.

Cardiac catheter fragments artificially contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus (gram +), Escherichia coli (gram -) and Bacillus subtilis (sporulated) and catheter fragments that had been soraged in laboratory (without artificial contamination), were utilized.

The catheters were sterilized in the solution for 20-30 minutes.

Bacteriological tests showed effetiviness for the Staphylococcus aureuscontaminated and for the storaged ones. Ineffectiviness resulted for the Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis ones.

The authors concluded that the present solution was satisfactory for current cardiac catheters sterilization.
