This paper refers to the work being developed by a group of nurses, coordenated the "Continuous Education Service" of the Nursing Division at HU-USP (School Hospital-University of São Paulo). It describes the steps used for preparing an orienting program for newly-hired employees, with the purpose of getting them adapted to the institution. It shows the importance of a schedule to guide the new employees and the receiving team over the adaptation period so as to ensure the standardization of procedures and to guarantee the information offered. It shows that the abovementioned schedule should have general characteristics to favor the coordination and to minimize the difficulties resulting from its apllication to different specialties.
