The aim of this study was to understand how nursing students at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) imagine themselves in the oldness and how they prepare themselves for oldness. The methodology used was with qualitative approach involving ten subjects. It was found out that the nursing students do not prepare themselves for the ageing process and that their image of oldness is based on the examples obtained throughout their lives. We consider that strategies should be developed in youth in order to have a better quality of life in the oldness.
