This is a proposal for the adaptation of the Problem Solving Method proposed by Bayley and Claus in the systematization of nursing care in an Intensive Care Unit. The case Study Methodology was used, with the application of the model to an intensive care patient. We elaborated an instrument which permitted the application of the model to nursing care practiced in the ICU and discussed the proposed steps of this model. We conclude that its application is feasible if adaptations of the proposed steps are made, and if it is developed in a structure with qualified nurses, technical resources and adequate material.
