Referred morbidity and health services use in the district of São Benedito do Rio Preto - Maranhão - 1995

Related morbidity and use of health services at São Benedito do Rio Preto districL state of Maranhão. The morbidity was investigated through domiciliary cross-sectional survey, and the data were analysed according to social economic and demographic variables. Considering the informed events, the surveyed period was of thirty (30) days. The demanding rate for medical assistance, health community agent, drugstore salesman and witchdoctor or shaman was searched. It was inquired about the assistance to women in fertile age and the vaccinal covering of children from 12 to 59 months of age. Among the 1,813 sampling people, 19.7% had some kind of disturbance, performing a general prevalence morbidity rate of 196.91/ 1,000 inhabitants. The demanding rate for medicai assistance was 25.8%; for the health community agent and the drugstore salesman, 9.8% for each one; and 6.7% for the witchdoctor or shaman. Among the 363 women in fertile age, 27.3% got pregnant, with a childbearing cover of 12.9%. The vaccinal cover of children from 12 to 59 months of age was 68.0% for Sabin, 60.0% for DTP, 72.8% for anti-measles, and 78.0% for BCG.
