ABSTRACT
This article aims to analyze empirically the wage asymmetries by gender in the South and Northeast regions of Brazil, according to admission to formal employment in economic sectors. The database used was the RAIS/2016 and an adaptation of the Oaxaca-Blinder procedure was applied. Results confirmed, in both regions, (i) wage discrimination against women; (ii) the lowest gender pay gap and discrimination for workers admitted to the first job and in trade workers; and (iii) the dual discrimination of women in agriculture and industry, both in employment and wages, intensified industry. The regional evidence suggests that the Northeast region has lower sex wage discrimination compared to the South region, which indicates greater homogeneity of wages in a less economically developed region in Brazil.
