The author discusses the need to preserve the essential values of the profession and calls attention to the expectations of the community in relation to the personal and technical qualities of the nurses. She presents the four main characteristics of the nursing program responsible for the development of such qualities, emphasizing the aspects of moral, ethical and professional growth.
