The objective was to obtain support to the heal th education of elderly with glaucoma. We interviewed three glaucoma patients, with ages above 60 years, individually, prior to a group session. We identif ied and analyzed the senses and meanings of gl aucoma and of lif e itself as well the rel ationship between them, f rom the Vygotsky's perspective. The signif icance of glaucoma takes form during the patient's emotional constitution and experiences, remodelling of their subjective condition and their lives. The central motivation in this signif icance is the hope of a cure f or glaucoma and the desire to preserve the autonomy and independence.
