Homeworkers: the last link of neoliberal production in Chile

Abstract:

Through this text, we give an account of the work experiences of women who work as home workers, in the manufacture of clothing and paper envelopes. The premise at the base is that these experiences are configured from the co-occurrence and articulation of a series of social relations, which configure particular experiences of work and life. An intersectional and gender perspective is adopted to recognize and problematize these co-occurrences and complex configurations. The methodology used was qualitative. In-depth interviews and observations were carried out in the homes of the workers. One of the main findings refers to the interweaving and mutual conditioning between class and gender relations, which subject female workers to the home, and the double performance of productive and reproductive tasks.
