Patriarchal reaction to the expansion of feminist struggles in Uruguay (2014-2022)

Abstract:

In recent years, a new wave of feminist struggles has emerged globally. This has been followed by a reactionary response: the organization and visibility of neoconservative and anti-gender movements that aim to counteract feminism and its impact on the political agenda. Composed of actors from the political party system, churches, and civil organizations, these movements present discourses grounded in the concept of “gender ideology,” liberal and anti-Marxist stances, as well as anti-radical positions. Based on the analysis of primary sources, this article examines the field of actors and discourses involved in the patriarchal reaction to Uruguayan feminism from 2014 to 2022, and the response that emerges from the feminist movement itself.
