Black Feminism in Angolan Literature

Abstract:

This article discusses the confluence of black feminism in Angolan literature: an intersectional analysis in Deolinda Rodrigues “Diary of An Unreturned Exile” (published in 2003, written between 1956-1967). It explores how Deolinda’s life and writings can contribute to intersectional gender studies, showing her ideas during the anti-colonial struggles period were already coincident with that of the black feminism; analysing specifically the diary of the author. The main results of this investigation suggest that it is possible to reframe back feminism genealogies of ideas and actions, including black African women. We underline the importance of developing more academic research on black women authors who helped build the history of African countries through their literature, activism and experiences.
