Abstract:
This article is the result of the effort to construct a theoretical framework to understand and delve into the meanings of intersectionality. The text includes a literature review and is structured around three fundamental elements: (1) the history prior to the emergence of the concept, (2) some complex forms of understanding what intersectionality is, and (3) social justice as a foundational and non-negotiable element of any strategy arising from intersectionality. It is a provisional, situated, and open map that aims to add to other particular conceptions of intersectionality and contribute to the collective construction of its meaning, criticizing its use as an academic fad or emptied of its emancipatory political commitment.
