(Neo)conservative discourses in Argentina on Comprehensive Sexual Education (2018-2021)

Abstract:

The discussions for the legalization of abortion in Argentina that began in 2018, as well as the political campaigns for the 2019 and 2021 elections, evidenced tensions and disputes between both religious and secular actors and discourses. In this context, and at the interdisciplinary crossroads between educational research, gender studies, and critical discourse analysis, this article explores the production and circulation of (neo)conservative meanings in the face of policies on sexual education, gender equality, and feminist mobilization in Argentina. The focus will be on the interventions of civil society groups, minority political parties, the Catholic and Evangelical churches, and activism through the Internet. The (neo)conservative forms of enunciation that discuss the gender perspective and the validity of Comprehensive Sexual Education will be evidenced as new rights.
