Comparison between different protocols for measuring handgrip

Studies have shown conflicting results regarding measures of handgrip by different protocols. The study verified the degree of agreement among three protocols for measuring handgrip strength, relative to body position and arm. The sample consisted of Physical Education students of both sexes. A digital dynamometer was used to measure grip strength. We selected three protocols: two with the individual standing, with outstretched arm with the elbow flexed 90°, and one with the subject seated with the elbow flexed at 90 degrees. The distribution of points in the concordance analysis showed good agreement between the protocols tested. It was concluded that the evaluated results of the handgrip protocols show a good agreement and the choice of whether to use depending on the specificity of the movement that will be evaluated.
