Sport of risk and risk in sport: an analysis of the perceived risk hand gliding

The objective of this paper is to analyze the perceived risk in the practice of hang gliding by different social actors in this activity. The methodology was as instruments: the interview and questionnaire. We investigated five different groups: observers, the first passenger, instructors, athletes and former athletes. The understanding of the risk factors involved are difficult to measure. It's closely associated with social elements and their perception. The production shows that the greater familiarity with the practice lower risk perception. The perceived risk has not decreased in accordance with the familiarity of the sport in contrast to the production area. It's this can be partly explained by the competition that enhances risk and build a reflexivity about the permanence in the activity.
