Vargem-1 kimberlite: bulk-sample confirms the diamond mineralization

The kimberlite Vargem-1, southeast of Coromandel (MG), occurs under the bed and banks of the Santo Inácio River, which has alluvial deposits mined for many years. However, the presence of diamonds in the intrusion was always questioned, which would have an adverse mineral chemistry to diamond mineralization. Now, bulk sampling running for a mining company, revealed the presence of diamonds, weighing less than 1 ct in one of the pits. This fact "opens" new exploratory perspective in dozens of intrusions already identified in such region.
