Public policies and access to health of migrants and refugees during the Covid-19 pandemic: compared global perspective

Abstract

This is an Integrative Review, covering 2020 and 2022, intending to analyze global public policies implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic to safeguard the health and human rights of migrants and refugees. The analysis was based on 24 articles out of 424 retrieved from the databases: Pubmed, Scopus, VHL, and Wiley. From the analysis, three thematic axes emerged: Health, Work, and Social Protection. The measures adopted by the States were multiple and heterogeneous, varying according to each individual's reality and migratory status, as a way of providing or depriving them of access to health, work, and social security policies. In this way, such policies also served as processes of stratification and biopolitical control. Therefore, it is necessary to overcome structural barriers and resolve inequalities, combat xenophobia and racism, and fully apply the provisions of international treaties, and protect these populations against arbitrary acts.
