Abstract
In this interview, philosopher Allen Buchanan discusses his entry into the topic of human enhancement and his frustration with the overly simplistic views espoused by Michael Sandel, Leon Kass, and others. Buchanan also recounts his involvement in bioethics commissions, his conviction that certain conservative views of human nature need to be resisted, and the possibilities surrounding a Global Institute for Justice and Innovation, ultimately defining himself, after reiterating the importance of applied philosophy, as a restless and nomadic thinker in relation to the real problems of the contemporary world.
