Comprehension of social and economic vulnerability in the scenario of pediatrics nursing care

Vulnerability factors that affect the environment where child and family are inserted can be translated by inadequate life conditions and development. This study aimed at understanding the perceptions of nurses about the influences of social and economic vulnerabilities upon the care given to the child and his or her family within the environment of Pediatrics Admittance Units in a University Hospital from the Municipality of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is about a qualitative research under the perspective of an exploratory and descriptive study. The collection of information was performed with nine participants by means of individual semi-structured interviews analyzed according to the referential of Content Analysis. Three analysis categories have emerged and the one regarding the comprehension of the social and economic vulnerability concept was explored herein. Results evidenced whenever vulnerability conditions are correctly identified the nursing professional has conditions of establishing actions that favor the healthy growth and development of the sick child and his or her family.
