Abstract
In 2013, the Gamela, until then considered extinct, began several manifestations to press the Brazilian State to recognize its indigenous identity and, thus, to assume the responsibility to protect their territory and specific rights. Several aspects of the history, ethnohistory and ethnogenesis of the Gamela discussed in this article provide significant and still current reflections on interracial and interethnic relations in Amazonia, especially on alliances and conflicts involving quilombola, indigenous and peasant communities. Here I present information gathered in extension and research projects that update and bring new subsidies to some of the available references about.
