Colonial collecting expeditions and the pursuit of opportunities in the Amazonian hinterland, c. 1750-1800

This paper is about the indigenous participation in the collection activities of the hinterland drugs, during the term of the Diretório dos Índios. It suggests an explanation for cases of voluntary participation in those activities: in them indigenous found space for independent action, they fostered the expansion of social networks and they configured new economic outlook.
