Abstract
The purpose of this article is to study the Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IHGRN), created on March 29, 1902. In this sense, the objective of this article is to analyze the emergency conditions of the IHGRN, identifying the set of interests that enable its creation, as well as the social and political profile of its founding partners. We have examined the first 25 years of IHGRN’s operation. This time frame includes activities started by the first exercises of the guild. It was at this time that the founding partners formulated the objectives, interests and the historiographical and political culture that long grounded as the institution’s guidelines.
