Political space and organization of power in Ancien Régime in Portugal

ABSTRACT

Between the Restoration (1640) and the French invasions (1807), the organization of the centrality of royal power went through two very different periods which led to two modalities of organization of the political space and of the exercise of power. The court society, which nurtured the cult of the monarchy and royal authority, will be followed by the Police State, whose cornucopia of the population’s well-being and happiness was essentially focused on society and politics. As for peripheral power, Enlightenment reformism innovatively rehearsed the process of deconstructing the corporate organizational network, but it would be the Liberal State to achieve this objective.
