ABSTRACT
This work investigates the epistemological variations in the approaches to photography as an image and as a language. Based on Lula’s portrait highlighted on the cover of Folha de S. Paulo on January 19, 2023, we reflect on the conceptual bases of journalistic photography and understand its appeals to the imaginary. We adopt the philosophical approach, analyzing the contradictions between different theoretical perspectives. We conclude that photography is a particular way of understanding the world, in which it is not taken as a simple representation of the world but rather perceived as its intrinsic part.
