ABSTRACT
This article investigates the political biography of João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) based on Willi Bolle's (2004) hypothesis that the writer was “politically reactionary”. We analyzed interviews, archival material, letters and newspapers to establish Guimarães’ and his family’s links to political parties, personalities and his support for the 1964 coup. Our conclusion is that the writer's viewpoint is close to conservatism political position.
