The frayed ends of life in Órfãos do Eldorado and Leite derramado

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this text is to develop the confrontation of two novels narrated in the first person, Orphans of Eldorado (2008), by Milton Hatoum, and Spilt milk (2009), by Chico Buarque, whose voices that drive the plots do not present themselves as trustworthy. We investigated the hermeneutic resources that permeate the relationship between writing and memory of two imposing contemporary authors in national literature, considering the mechanisms that involve the construction of the unreliability of narrator-characters immersed in the illnesses of memory.
