“What about a samba?” and its layers of meaning

ABSTRACT

It is an ideological reading of a song by Chico Buarque, which presents a metaphorical invitation to restore a situation of damage, referring to an imposed suffering. The song focuses on this fundamental contribution of Afro-Brazilians, the samba, focusing on places traditionally considered their birthplace - Valongo, Gamboa, Pedra do Sal - but which, in another layer, are spaces of memory of Slavery. The analysis also shows another layer, which would concern a short-lived history, pointing out what may be behind the collective pain alluded to, having as a recent historical reference the Bolsonarist necro-politics.
