From the Biennal to MAM, the trajectory of Maria Ricardina to Diná Lopes Coelho

ABSTRACT

We analyse here the career of Diná Lopes Coelho, emphasizing her challenges and achievements as the secretary-general of the São Paulo Biennial and director of MAM-SP. We problematize her role as a mediator, cultural manager, and curator, as well as the challenges in assessing her legacy. We show that, despite her active engagement, Diná encountered the diminishment of her impact, frequently ascribed to naturalized “feminine” qualities. The establishment of the Panorama stands out as a key achievement, underscoring her substantial yet frequently undervalued influence within Brazil’s art scene.
